Canadian Child Protection Worker Registry

Welcome to the Canadian Child Protection Worker Registry.

The Registry has been developed as a service to the public and hosts a listing of names of persons who work with the public and work for or are associated with a child protection agency in Canada.   All persons who work with the public in child protection matters are considered in law as "public" or "limited public" figures and as such are open to opinion and fair comment on matters of public interest.  The protection of children by publicly funded child protection agencies and their workers is clearly a matter of public interest. Those whose names can be included on the Canadian Child Protection Workers Registry include:

  • Child Protection workers, their supervisors or anyone who directly works for a child protection agency

  • Lawyers who work directly for or who are contracted by a child protection agency

  • Assessors, doctors or other child related professional who work for or who are contracted by a child protection agency

All names on the Registry are posted directly on to the Registry by members of the public.  All members of the Canadian public who have had dealings with any person working for or associated with a child protection agency in Canada are encouraged to participate in this collaborative effort by sharing their experiences and opinions about child protection workers in Canada.  We encourage readers to post both complaints and/or recommendations about individuals they are currently dealing with or have dealt with in the past.  This registry is to allow Canadians to share their opinions based on their dealings with those involved with child protection anywhere in Canada.

As there is currently no way for the public to find out about general complaints made against individual workers in the child protection industry, the purpose of the registry is to serve the public's interest by promoting greater consumer awareness about those individuals who work for or in cooperation with various child protection agencies in Canada.  There is overwhelming evidence to support arguments that the child protection system in Canada is riddled with problems and that existing procedures to maintain transparency and accountability within the child protection system are failing to adequately protect the public.  It is abundantly clear that a more convenient system which is easily accessible by the public is needed to help protect children and families from abuse by the system itself.  This registry is strictly limited to the listing of those persons involved with child protection agencies in Canada only.  This list can also include the names of lawyers who work for or represent a child protection agency in Canada although readers are encouraged to also register the names of any lawyer on the Canadian Lawyer Registry.

When entering information on the form, please make your comments detailed, helpful and polite and tell other readers why you rated the worker as you did. Libelous or very short comments which do not explain your posting will be deleted. Further, this is not a forum for reporting illegal activity by child protection workers unless you can provide supporting evidence to support your claims.  Remember, the most effective use of this site is to allow Canadians to give their fellow Canadians a "heads up" about those persons working within the child protection industry in Canada without having to publicly provide intimate details of individual cases.  Most persons who make postings on the Registry indicate that they are willing to share their experiences with others in a more private manner outside of the Registry so if you would like to speak to others who may have information to share about a particular person on the Registry, then please indicate on the attached form.

While the identity of those who make complaints is not viewable, the contact information of persons making submissions will be verified by Registry representatives through telephone contact.  Where complaints are of a serious nature, those who file complaints may be required to submit documentation for filing with the Registry.  Administrators of the Registry maintain a comprehensive database of all those who have been reported to the Registry by members of the public.

To balance the need of privacy of the individuals identified on this list yet protect the public's interest regarding the delivery of services to the public, more specific information about the nature of the complaints against those on the Registry can be obtained only upon the request to those who contact Canada Court Watch to identify themselves and can provide a valid reason for wanting such information.  Those who make complaints about any person on this list are required to identify themselves although their names of those who submit entries will be kept in strictest of confidence.  In the event of a large number of similar complaints about a particular agency or worker which may indicate that the public's interest is being adversely affected by any particular person or agency, those who have submitted information will be provided with the opportunity to communicate with other persons who have complained for the purposes of a possible civil or class action lawsuit.  Others who have made complaints may also be willing to provide testimony in court in regards to a particular person or agency whose name appears on the Registry.

A note to those who name appears of the Registry:

If you are a person whose name appears on the Registry and feel that a complaint has been recorded against you in error or maliciously by someone acting without just cause, then you may request that your name be removed from the Registry.   Requests to remove names should be made in writing to: info@canadacourtwatch.com.  Please be aware, however, that individuals make posts do have the right to express their own opinions and to make fair comments about those whose work impacts on the public's interest.  Under law, you are considered as a "public" or "limited public" figure.  Just as you are allowed to share information and communicate with other workers and agencies about individual members of the public using such tools as the child abuse registry, the public has the right to protect itself by sharing information about public service providers.  Should you wish to have an entry against your name reviewed for the purpose of removal or revision, a review of your file will be conducted  by a six member Family Justice Review Committee.  The person who originally posted the complaint will also be be given the opportunity to make a submission if they feel that it is in the public's interest to have the name remain on the Registry.  Pleased be advised that any person who becomes aware of their name being on this Registry and who does not request in writing that their name be removed is deemed to have accepted that their name has been posted to the Registry in good faith based on reasonable and just cause.

If you feel that comments expressed about yourself by some members of the public are just isolated incidents and do not accurately reflect the overall quality of services you have provided to members of the public, then simply ask members of the public who have been satisfied with the services you have provided them, to submit their recommendations and comments as well. This site is for the expression of all opinions, both good and bad, about child protection workers and agencies.  It is hoped that this site will promote greater accountability and greater professionalism by those who work within the child protection industry in Canada.  Members of the public simply want child protection workers and agencies to do their jobs in an professional and accountable manner.
