Community Watch Canadian Legal Services Registry

Welcome to the Community Watch Legal Services Registry.

The Canadian Legal Services Registry has been developed as a public service and contains a listing of names of persons providing legal services in Canada along with recommendations by members of the public in Canada.  All members of the Canadian public who have had dealings with legal service providers are encouraged to participate in this collaborative effort by sharing their experiences and opinions about lawyers and paralegals in Canada.  We encourage readers to post both complaints and/or recommendations.  Those seeking the services of a lawyer or paralegal in Canada are encouraged to check with the Registry and to see what other Canadians have to say about particular lawyers or paralegals before hiring one.

This registry is to allow Canadians to share their opinions based on their dealings with either lawyers or paralegals who provide legal services anywhere in Canada.  The purpose of the registry is to help protect the public's interest by promoting greater consumer awareness about those individuals and firms who provide legal services in Canada.  This registry is strictly limited to the listing of lawyers and paralegals in Canada only.  A registry of social workers and other professionals such as child custody assessment professionals associated with the court system is currently under construction and will be available for public input in the near future.  All the individuals and firms listed in the Registry have been entered directly on to the Registry by members of the public.

When entering information on the form, please make your comments detailed, helpful and polite and tell us why you rated the lawyer as you did. Libelous or very short comments which do not explain your posting will be deleted. Further, this is not a forum for reporting illegal activity by legal service providers, unless you include a link to a site with supporting evidence or provide supporting documentation to Canada Court Watch which maintains files containing more specific documentation on serious complaints.

While the identity of those who make complaints and the basis of their complaints is not viewable by other members of the public, this information will be verified by Registry representatives through telephone contact with the person making the complaint.  Where complaints are of a more serious nature, those who file complaints may be required to submit documentation for filing with the Registry.  All contact information will remain confidential.

To balance the need of privacy of the individuals identified on this list yet protect the public's interest regarding the delivery of services to the public, more specific information about the nature of the complaints against those on the Registry can be obtained only upon the request to those who identify themselves and can provide a valid reason for wanting such information.

Before hiring any legal services provider we would also encourage readers to educate themselves about the legal services industry which many claim is highly corrupt.  Readers are encouraged to check other websites which give approval ratings on lawyers and to make postings and/or inquiries on those sites as well.  Such sites include:

Rate your lawyer http://www.lawyerratingz.com (US based but also includes Canadian lawyers)
Dirty Lawyer Registry (Ontario) http://www.dirtylawyer.com (Ontario based)
National Coalition for Law Society Reform
http://www.lawsocietiesreform.com

Please note: If you are a legal service provider whose name appears on the Registry and feel that a complaint has been recorded against you in error or maliciously by someone acting without just cause, then you may request that your name be removed from the list.   Requests to remove names should be made to: info@canadacourtwatch.com or by phone at (416) 410-4115.  Should you wish to have an entry against your name reviewed, a review of your file will be conducted  by a six member Family Justice Review Committee.  The person who submitted the original post will also be consulted.  Pleased be advised that any person who becomes aware of their name being on this Registry and who does not request in writing that their name be removed is deemed to have accepted that their name has been posted to this list in good faith by others based on reasonable and just cause.
