It time for the legal establishment to show respect for one of Ontario's greatest jurists, former Chief Justice W.G.C. Howland
More than 20 years ago, the Chief Justice of Ontario at the time, W.G.C. Howard, made a bold decision intended to make the courts more open, transparent and affordable for the people of Ontario.
He ordered that the rights of the people of Ontario to record their own court hearings as laid out under Section 136(2)(b) of the Courts of Justice Act was to be respected by the courts and administration without having to argue this before the court. Howland had the insight to know what was right for the people of Ontario.
Unfortunately, today, many judges and lawyers and workers at the court make a mockery of Justice Howland and show their disrespect to one of the greatest contributions that Justice Howland made to the advancement of the administration of justice.
