Mr. Justice George T. Walsh COURT CASES - Comments and Discussion May 1999A formal judicial complaint was filed by a non-custodial parent against Justice Walsh for obstruction of justice against a person representing themselves in Justice Walsh's court. Of particular concern to the public was that Justice Walsh refused to allow the non-custodial parent to have a court reporter in the court. The parent even brought their own court certified reporter with them to the court and paid for the costs themselves. The exact same complaint was made by a mother representing herself in an earlier case involving this same judge. A downtown Toronto lawyer, who is a specialist in family law, also advised us that Justice Walsh has a habit of keeping court reporters out of his courtroom.
A formal complaint will be issued from the Canada Court Watch to the Justice Minister and this letter will be posted in this Justice's file when sent. In the meantime it is suggested that anyone who appears before Justice Walsh demand their rights for a court reporter or tell Justice Walsh that you will be filing a formal complaint to the Canadian Judicial Council. Once you have made this statement to the judge then ask him to relieve himself from your case as your case is now prejudiced because of your intent to issue a complaint. Then get your case heard before another Justice who will agree to a court reporter being present. Court reporters are YOUR right, not the judge's right to deny! If you experience problems with Justice Walsh of the Toronto court then please contact the Canada Court Watch Program at the email listed. |
